Bready steady sort in Blaise Pascal High School (Orsay, France) - Concours JRE international 2016
This report was made as part of the 2016 Young Reporters for the Environment competition. It depicts a short cycle initiated by the eco-representatives of Blaise Pascal high school. A discussion concerning the sorting and fate of the food waste generated by the school canteen led to the purchase of a dryer which enables to transform sorted food waste into an organic substrate which is then collected by a grain grower of the Saclay Plateau who works it for a whole year before he spreads it on his fields. In the bakery adjacent to the farm, the harvested wheat is used to make organic whole-meal bread which is delivered twice a week to the high school canteen.
